Place: Sailing to Langkawi

Sail Yacht Shamoun has cleared out of Phuket in Thailand and we’ve set sail for Langkawi, which is a small island just off Malaysia. We’re heading to Langkawi for our scheduled yard period.

We spent about four months in Phuket this time, and had many great adventures learning more about the culture and all the local cuisine. We were based in Yacht Haven Marina, which was at the North of the Island, and run by our friends, two remarkable ex-pats, Zara and her partner Nick. They looked after us during our stay at their Marina and were very patient with all our questions and requests.

We used our regular yacht agents, Asia Pacific Superyachts and worked mainly with Toby and Gordon. They always ensure that any requirements we have during our stay in Phuket, are dealt with efficiently and punctually.

Our main goal during our Phuket stay was to get the boat ready for our yard period. It’s a big refit this year, as the engines, the gearbox and the shaft generators have to be overhauled and serviced. (That’s a lot of pressure on the engineering side of things.)

We did however do a lot of fun activities during all the hard work. We took part in the annual Asia Pacific SuperYacht Rendezvous. It was held at Kata Rocks, Kata Beach, which is down South. There were six sail yachts that took part in the 3-day race. Shamoun rated well in the races and as a whole the event was a great success. Here’s a link to a clip of the 2013 Rendezvous.

The New Year brought in a charter to the Andaman Islands, in the Andaman Sea. It’s very beautiful, and for most of us, it was our first trip to India. Our guests were very much into diving and we had lovely Jocie Tysoe onboard with us, as our Dive Master. The trip was a great success and very much enjoyed by all! From the crews’ side, we loved every minute with our new-made American friends, from whom we learnt a lot and shared endless laughs. We hope they come visit us, aboard Shamoun, again soon!

Regards,
The Shamoun Team

Here’s some more publicity that was published in Yacht Style by our friend, Suzy Rayment.
