THE SHAMOUN BLOG

Place: Auckland, New Zealand

The Shamoun team said our farwells to the new friends we had made in Brisbane and headed for Auckland, New Zealand on the 3rd of Jan. The team  included our favorite delivery crew – Pat Dorsey and Coraline Vitti. We were met with a pretty bumpy start but things soon smoothed out, for a while.

The nearer we got to New Zealand the more fish life we kept seeing. Our total sightings tally was 1 whale, too many pods of dolphins to count and quite a few sunfish, which are an incredibly rare sight.

We were met by some icy cold, stormy nights but breezed through pretty quickly due to our good average speed of about 11 knots.

We were very fortunate to do a “drive-by” past Lord Howe’s Island, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We arrived in a very sunny, warm, Auckland on the 9th of Jan and things have been pretty much GO, GO, GO, since then. Shamoun has spent quite a few months based out of Auckland before, and for some of us crew, it felt a bit like coming home.

New Zealand has so much to offer in terms of amazing ocean wild life, the most beautiful landscapes, great city activities, super friendly people, great commodities as well as AMAZINGLY famous (and delicious) lamb meat.

We’re hoping to be here for a few months at least this time around and see more of what NZ has to offer.

Kind Regards,
The Shamoun Team
