THE SHAMOUN BLOG

Place: Auckland

Winter has officially hit Auckland! With reports of snow down South, we’ve been experiencing typical Auckland winter weather, rain, icy winds and pretty low temps. We’ve all been bundled up warmly onboard Shamoun.

This hasn’t slowed down the pace of work though! Shamoun got hauled out the water for about 4 days to diagnose a few issues. As we’re tented up we had to get towed over to the slip in Titans Yard by two tug-boats. A very watchful eye was kept on everything by Captain David who manned the tender and zipped around checking all the proportions and angles of every stage of the tow. All went well and we went back into the water 4 days later.

The fridges and freezer are getting a lot of love too. They have been stripped down and are being resealed. Pretty much brand new! The chefie is very happy!

The decking refit is moving along very nicely. Besides the dust clouds, everyone is happy with the progress and quality of work. Painting of the deck commences this week which is a big forward step for us.

May is Breast Cancer Awareness month in New Zealand. The Shamoun’ers have taken a time-out to remember those affected by cancer. For some of us it’s hit very close to home and in light of that we made a small donation to the New Zealand cancer society. We know that every bit helps!

On the same train of thought, as June approaches the Shamoun’ers are getting ready to take on another campaign by the New Zealand Cancer Society. It’s called “Junk-Free-June”. The thought behind the campaign is that even though particular types of foods cannot directly heal cancer, eating clean and healthy can quicken the healing process. It also helps reduce a lot of the risks we face by eating processed and “junk” foods. The crew of Shamoun have decided to get involved in this amazing cause and have signed up for a whole month of non-processed food, no sodas, no sweeties, no bread and for some a ‘dry’ month of no alcohol too. All the crew will donate to the cause and we’re hoping that our lovely family and friends will jump on board and will not only just donate, but will try out “Junk-Free-June” too! Check out our FaceBook page for more info!

Till next time!

Kind Regards,
The Shamoun Team
