THE SHAMOUN BLOG

Place: Langkawi

We’ve been in Langkawi for over a week now. We are based at Boustead Yard, formally known as Wave Master.

We have a few extra hands to help us during the yard period. Jocie Tysoe stayed on after our Andaman trip to help out on deck. Gavin McIntosh flew over from Amsterdam to help out in the engineering department. Leroy McDougall flew out from Tasmania to help out on deck.

We were hauled out of the water a few days ago and a pit has been built to house the keel. The boom was removed just before we got hauled.

The boat has been completely emptied of its contents– as in COMPLETELY! All the sofas, crockery, books, linen etc, the entire galley, including the kitchen sink (literally)! Both of the engines, the gearbox, the shaft generators and the rudders.  We did it in record time, and now we are waiting for all our extra crew and contractors to arrive.

We have set up a mini Shamoun “Container City” to house all the various departments.
We have an engineering container where the engines will be overhauled. There is a painting, sanding and varnishing station, for the deck crew. There is a storage container for all the interior and galley items that came off the boat. Lastly, there is an “office” container that doubles as the canteen.

We’ve all been moved off the boat and are staying in an apartment block. It’s quite strange to be back on land, but everyone’s adjusted well, especially to the double beds and satellite TV.

Regards,
The Shamoun Team
