THE SHAMOUN BLOG

March 11, 2014
Place: Langkawi

All our extra crew and contractors have all arrived now. Floris Verbruggen, our expert from Sandferdin, has been hard at work for over a week, helping the engineers out.

Dylan Stevens flew in from South Africa and is an expert in the painting and varnishing sector. Bryan Loggenberg flew in from the States and is helping out on deck.

Finally, Grace Lapuag came in from Thailand to help with food prep and cleaning.

We’ve got a little Shamoun army now, so things are getting done and done quickly. Funnily enough out of the 12 refit crew, five of us are South African. The sayings obviously true – “South Africans are taking over the world”!

Making enough food for everyone has become like a production line. Rows and rows of sandwiches and salads.

As for an update on work stuff , the port side engine was bench tested on Friday by our engineers and again on Monday by Floris from Sandferdin. Everyone is happy with the results and things are (in a whisper) in fact ahead of schedule.

We’ve been battling through the heat at the moment. We’re in the middle of what is being called one of the driest seasons Langkawi has ever had.  We’re averaging about 45 degrees Celsius every afternoon.

Kind Regards,
The Shamoun Team
