THE SHAMOUN BLOG

July 1, 2014
Place: Langkawi

So here we are, four and a half months later, with only a couple weeks to go till we hit the seas and sail out of here! With a massive, successful refit behind us, I think everyone is very much looking forward to the new adventures that lay ahead.

Shamoun, which was in pieces only a week ago, is back in the water and looking as good as ever. We’re just setting all the final bits in place and then we’ll be ready for the next voyage.

We’d like to say a massive thanks to everyone that helped us out during our stay here in Langkawi.  Bryan Loggenberg, Floris Verbruigen and Gavin McIntosh -thanks for your patience and hard work helping us get Shamoun ready.

Thanks to all the food suppliers who kept us fed while we didn’t have a galley - Troppo Co for all the yummy sandwiches, Red Tomato for the pizza’s and pasta’s, Sailors for your home-made pies and yummy South African treats and to Tomato for the best around-the-clock Indian food.

Also a big thanks to Asia Pacific SuperYachts Langkawi. Nick and Andy have gone out of their way to help us achieve the seemingly impossible.

July is not only a month for new adventures, but it a month in which we celebrate South Africa’s (and in honesty, one of THE WORLD'S) greatest leaders and the most famous diplomat for change and equality, the late Mr. Nelson Mandela. On the 18th of July we celebrate the legends legacy by doing what he did best – giving back. Giving back to the communities that look after us so well during our travels. Helping out those less fortunate than us, or those who just need a little help or love in their lives.

This year Shamoun is urging all our fellow Yachties and friends to get involved in this years “Madiba Day” and do something positive within your local community. Let’s use this as our chance to give back, whether it’s donating cash to a local charity, visiting the folks at an old-age-home, helping out with maintenance at a local orphanage or spending time with animals at the local shelter, no deed is too small or insignificant.

Please take heaps of pics and add #yachtiesgiveback so we can see all your pics!
Thanks and remember to try make every day a Mandela Day!

Kind Regards,
The Shamoun Team
