THE SHAMOUN BLOG

9 December 2014
Place: Brisbane

The Shamoun’ers have been pretty busy the last few weeks! We’ve been cruising through the to-do list at quite a rapid pace!

The entire interior as well as all the deck stuff has been boxed up and stored off the boat for the last few weeks, in order to do some maintenance. It’s been amazing to see how much stuff actually fits on the boat – 2 x 40-foot containers full.

First on our “To Do list was sanding and re-varnishing the interior floors as well as some of the deck bits, we’re doing some electronic re-wiring which will simplify things hopefully, some work is being done on the engines and then the big one – the mast was pulled out to change some of our rigging bits.

Our friends from Smart Rigging in Holland, Connie and Leend't have flown out to come head up the rigging project. All in all, the pulling of the rig was very successful and went down pretty smoothly. The guys did their work on it in record speed and it was put back in about a week later. Everyone is happy with the end results. We'd like to take this opportunity to say thanks to Smart Rigging for their help with this project!

Our friends from San Firden in Holland, Floris and Johan have joined us to take control of the main engine project. We expect them to be with us for the next 2 weeks. Let the fun commence!

The festive period marks yet another change for Shamoun, with regards to crew.
Our Mate Dan Wakely has decided to leave Shamoun in search of his next adventure. All the best Dan, safe sails and happy times for you!
We’re very pleased to welcome our new Engineer, Dom Hastings. Dom has been in the Maritime industry for 16 years. He grew up on Sydney’s waterways and is very passionate about sailing.

We know he’ll fit right into our Shamoun family.

December sees a massive amount of festivities and celebrations, as well as a lot of opportunities for giving back! We started off December with World Aids Day, for which the Shamoun’ers donned our best red outfits (Hand dyed by yours truly!) and our Aids ribbons. There will be a lot of events to come, of which we’ll keep you posted!

Kind Regards,
The Shamoun Team
